Your face is not as fat as mine.

"I wish you had been my mother." A younger colleague of mine, who had problems with his mother, said this after I'd been talking to him, for a period of weeks about his failing marriage. It was so sweet, and caught me off-guard. I've been fairly open about my childhood being dysfunctional, and that I knowingly didn't have children because of it. I thought later, if he thought I would have been a good mother, his mother must have been a real piece of work.

“if i have a girl ill name her after you” (another friend wanted to name his daughter. after me too but the wife didnt like it so now their DOG is caled Nora) . the “I love yous”... maybe once one guy when he said he would die for me if it meant saving me and even though it was never tested i kinda felt he meant it. probably my parents also said bunch of nice stuff to me. like that thet would love me even if i murdered people. they would be mad at me and all but would still love me. thats kinda nice too. and i dont need to murder people to know they mean it

wow. that really is amazing. what did you say back? It actually happened on two occasions.
The first time, I was about 19 or 20. I think the child was about 7 or 8. I indicated I liked the idea, but that even if it didn't work out that way the important thing was we were still friends. In a way, I felt uncomfortable about supplanting her father and that I was not really old enough or experienced enough to assume such a role.
The second time, I was in my mid-thirties. I had no qualms about accepting the role. Unfortunately, due to geographical considerations, we were never able to put it into practise. My son and I lived in the state capital of South Australia and she and her mother lived in rural Maine. Again, it just wasn't meant to be.

Have a little faith in yourself.

The nicest things that have ever been said to my face have absolutely been during or after sex with a woman that loves me.

Well it's not to my face exactly but I was at an art show and talking to the boss (who paid for our booth). The previous weekend my picture ended up in the newspaper on the front page. These two good looking women were walking the grounds and the boss-a lecherous type--made some comment about them, and I just said something to him like, yeah they won't come over here..
One of them arrives in front of our section and calls to the other one: "here's the guy we were looking for!"
Turns out, they had seen my picture the weekend prior, and came out specifically to see my work.

I have had a lot of people say nice things to me over the years and my Wifey has said many and has wrote me poetry but aside from that the two that have meant the most have been having my Sister and my Aunt tell me they were proud of me.
