It's a disgrace, giving out awards for inclusion, not merit. Hollywood has turned so political the last few years that the nom should not be a surprise Its ridiculous. I mean BlackKklansman is already in there as a majority black political film, so why the need for BP as well? Only answer is ratings, Oscars had the lowest ratings ever last year and they want to vacuum in the comic genre fans to boost their numbers. Your argument is that because BlackKklansman has black people in it, BP shouldn't be allowed?

This reaction is just as stupid as the reaction to the Gillette commercial. It's not the end of the world, hell Black Panther is more likely to win best original song than win best picture. The Oscars being political is nothing new and quite honestly they're nothing more than a place where over paid, egotistical, smug and hypocritical douchebags get together and jerk each other off. The Oscars have been a joke for a long time, this changes nothing. Besides how many of you actuallyhis bullshit? The Oscars may be a joke but, that joke isn't funny anymore after today. It's too close to home and too near the bone. I've seen this happen to other people's fandoms but, now, it's happening in mine... Hee hee hee...

Black panthers farcical nomination for the most presitgous award in cinematic recognition has destroyed the credibility of the superhero genre, the Oscars themselves and set back its reputation a decade +, back to when the dark knight should have been the first nominated, all in 1 swoop. Jeeezuuuus... Exaggerate much?

Then hell, Tyler Perry should be president-for-life by now.

Just to be clear, Black Panther getting nominated was most likely at least partially motivated by the fact that last years Oscars ceremony had a record low viewership. Nominating popular films like Black Panther and Bohemian Rhapsody for Best Picutre is an easy way of ensuring that more people tune in. While politics likely also played into it, I doubt that was the primary factor. If the only thing the Academy looked at was politics, American Sniper wouldn’t have been nominated for Best Picture and Best Director.

This year it's Black Panther. Maybe in 2020 it'll be Wonder Woman 1984. You never know...

There's a thread celebrating the nomination, that seems adequate. The guys that would be idiots about it have mercifully left this site.

Even DC fangirl Grace Randolph gets it.
"Black Panther's nomination finally moves comic book movies forward in terms of legitimacy in the industry to be seen as 'real movies' since that infamous snub when The Dark Knight was released in 2008."

The guy with the beard doesn’t think Vice or Bohemian Rhapsody should be nominated either. Why are you fixated on Black Panther?
