I think if presented through a voyeuristic lense (which were the best bits from Hollow Man) or playing up the other characters' paranoia, it could work.

The only way I can see this working is to make him "skinless" and horrific to look at for a large portion of the movie before completely turning invisible.

Well I doubt they'll actually try to sell it as a horror movie.

Maybe an invisible animal? Like the Invisible Alligator or Lion? Or maybe Jeannie's dog Djinn-Djinn?

Probably why the best version of the character was made in 1933. After the crappy Mummy redo I have no hopes for the new Invisible Man film. In general I dont like remakes anyway. Some exceptions though.

When playing with invisibility you'd think a strong visual stylist would be ideal to direct. There's so many possibilities. I'm not filled with hope by the choice of Leigh Whannell who's an actor and screenwriter who's directed a couple of movies these last few years. Admittedly, I haven't yet seen his film 'Upgrade' (2018) which has a high rating on imdb, so I need to check this movie out.
I'd' watch this though. Thanks for the news.

I really don't see your point. I mean, I hear what you're saying, but I look and don't see anything.
Kidding aside, it's not "outdated". It just doesn't pertain to the geeks who have to have that kind of monster. It doesn't have a "Halloween costume" appeal, naturally, although some people have gotten around that with certain costumes.
Not everyone has to have a visible monster. The original didn't play as much on the reaction of other characters in close up shots with well timed cut away shots, which is the standard for an invisible or unseen menace. For better or worse, that was a director's choice.
There's absolutely no reason an invisible man couldn't work. It just requires imaginative procedure and the cooperation of the cast and crew.

I really Really REALLY want to see them do a Remake of " CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON". It was on the books for years. I know Scarlett Johansson was attached to star at some point. In light of the success of The Shape of Water, maybe he'd be the hero this time.

Yeah, the reason Hollow Man isn't liked is because it isn't very well written and the reason it isn't scary is because it is more of a sci-fi thriller than a horror movie. While still touching on the themes of H.G. Welles's story, it is more concerned with the visual effects than the story. It just becomes a generic slasher movie in the process.
I have no doubt a new adaptation will be crap, but that is because there probably won't be much effort put into it.

You could have an invisible couple - a man and a woman. It would excite the movie's target audience because they would realize that the two people were naked when invisible. The Bevis and Butthead crowd would love it.
