King Arthur anymore? The kid that would be king of course bombs just like the last King Arthur inspired movie they've got to let this story with Merlin and the Excalibur, and all this crap just let it go.
I bet even Disney's live action remake of The Sword in the Stone it won't bomb because it's freaking Disney but it will be the lowest grossing of all their live-action remakes.

If it made the slightest bit of money in the past or had success, it's going to be attempted again in the future.

Robin Hood is another one they need to leave alone. I'm sure it will be left alone for now, but you'll see another one inside of 10 years.

It's a tried, tested and true story. It's played out in its own form but it can be used in other ways. Even in Aquaman, he sets out to find this ancient trident only the true king of Atlantis can hold. So of course Aquaman can pick it up because Arthur.

The only way to truly stop Hollywood from making more movies of a franchise that keeps flopping or is tired is for the latest film to literally gross no money at all.

Uhhh I believe the story of Poseidon and Greek mythology has influenced Aquaman not the story of King Arthur are we joking here?

Worth considering that movies can have more than one influence.

Car chase scenes.
Sure, the mechanics and car nuts and crack heads whack off to them, and claim they replaced the horse chase. WRONG!
Cars are everywhere, and no one wants to see all these cars and city streets. They make terrible cinema as a rule. They denote a status quo, and just don't work in action
Also, the "lovable outlaw", the killer we're supposed to care about, the thief, the spoiled people who have all the resources and just act superior. Hollywood is in the mob family, has been for over 50 years, and so they glorify the mob and the criminals, and sane people don't care. They make a killing off the dorks who would buy anything Hollywood sells, but they'd do better if they stopped alienating law abiding, God fearing people.

Worth considering that movies can have more than one influence. You don't understand the point I'm making. I'm taking about king Arthur Merlin all that. Not influences. I'm sure in the future they could make a movie with the back theme of a hero stealing from the rich and giving to the poor but if it's Robinhood then it will fail.

I did, but if you want to keep it just at the characters and not at the influences, which I think are valid, then sure. They've been done. Glad we cleared that up and didn't move the convo anywhere else.

I've read Le Morte D'Arthur (though it's been awhile) and there are plenty of stories that could make for great films. I would enjoy seeing a film about Palamedes and Tristan for example.
I think the big problem is that Arthurian legend is often adapted into film as just being about Arthur, Merlin, Lancelot, Excalibur, maybe Mordred, and that's about it. I'd rather see them branch out with the less well-known stories from Arthurian legend.
Of course, that's just me, and I think they'd certainly bomb too. Nonetheless, at least they'd be more interesting. I do agree it's a stale concept and Hollywood is not going to make King Arthur a "cool" mega blockbuster.

It's the execution. They are not trying to do an audience-friendly version of the story, but one that satisfies the political tastes of the ones funding it so it ends up sucking. The Robin Hood films demonstrate this well. The Russell Crowe version was morbid and slow. The 1938 version is still watchable.

I like it when they revisit classic stories like that. But apparently that's just me. I wish they'd stop trying to add a new "twist" or try to make it hip with CGI overload like that King Arthur movie or the latest Robin Hood though. It looks tacky. As much as I enjoy the POTC series, I guess I'll have to blame those movies for starting that trend.
