His best performance, from those I've seen, is probably in L.I.E. I also remember him as very powerful in The Lost Language of Cranes, and he was a chilling Hannibal Lector in Manhunter, several years before Anthony Hopkins made the role famous.
He's a reliable actor but few of his roles truly stand out, to be honest - he has been in quite a few good movies, though (Rushmore, Zodiac, Rob Roy, 25th Hour...).

One of the best things about X-men 2. An actual threatening bad guy with a devoted POV unlike all those beta villains in the MCU. After Jeff Bridges, all the bad guys became crying on the inside types.

Other than X2, I also know him as the old neighbor from Trick 'r Treat.
Yes, he’s a good actor.

Yes. Don't like his version of Hannibal Lecter though.

The Man is in everything, he's a real workhorse. I've yet to see him give a bad performance.

I liked him in Troy as Agamemnon and in the Ralph Fiennes adaption of Coriolanus. Great films. Whenever I read the Iliad (one of my favorite stories) I always envision him speaking the lines.
How was his Churchill? I know a lot of critics (and audience) seem to think it's a vastly inferior film to Gary Oldman's Darkest Hour. Any opinions?

Yes. Before Sir Anthony Hopkins forever cemented the role of Hannibal Lecter Mr. Cox portrayed him in Manhunter. He was just as chilling and devious and foreboding. Mr. Hopkins had two advantages in his portrayal, more screen time and the fact that he found the hammy parts of the role to play up (He also had a director that was more interested in actors than in the way things "look", but that's another story). But Mr. Cox played the role to the hilt. That's just one example.

I would say that he probably would have received an Oscar nod for it if L.I.E. had a wider release but meh... probably not on the grounds of it being too provocative for Hollywood.

I've enjoyed him in everything I've seen him in. I especially loved him in The Ring.

That's funny because even before I saw Troy, I did tend to think of Agamemnon as being someone very much like that. I think he was the only casting that didn't ring false for me. Interesting thing with Homer is that he only describes one character in great detail in the whole work-a minor soldier character. The rest are vaguely described in appearance.
I prefer his Hannibal Lecter to Hopkins who I think acts too artificial and is helped by various camera tricks. He is also more of a sinister father figure. Cox's version is colder and not meant to be sympathetic at all.
I wasn't crazy about Hopkins' Van Helsing either.

I've enjoyed him in everything I've seen him in. I especially loved him in The Ring. Okay, so this is some in sync energy going on here. I was just telling my friend that "Lost Language of the Cranes" is probably my favorite gay themed movie. And Brian Cox is the star in that and I found him very, very appealing. He was very good in L.I.E. as well. That was a downer of a movie. And, don't forget, he was the original Hannibal Lector in the evocative 1986 "Manhunter". That was an excellent movie, and Cox (who was only about 40 here and kinda handsome, I would have gone for him) was so much better, IMO, than Anthony Hopkins from SOTL.
