But isn't your list consisted of raging alcoholics - including Ruth who was allegedly notoriously drunk/hung over on game days Two players, Gehrig and Wagner, who were famous for their clean lifestyles. I don't think Hornsby drank either, claiming booze interfered with hitting. No shortage of drinking ballplayers, Rube Waddell, Pete Alexander, Jimmie Foxx, Mickey Mantle, Hack Wilson.
Wasn't Hornsby the one who was in the KKK or was it someone else?

Who gives a shit if they’re alcoholics or not? Beer & whiskey aren’t banned substances and they don’t exactly enhance your performance either. Imagine Mantle’s numbers if he was sober. So by your rational, guys who are taking stuff to enhance their performance are worse than guys who get so wasted the night before that they can barely play until that first beer around the third inning? Yes, because they're not doing anything illegal, whereas the guys "taking stuff to enhance their performance" are illegally doing drugs that if it were you or I and we were caught, would go to prison.

Here's one for my adoptive NL team, the Giants..... 1B- Willie McCovey 2B- Jeff Kent SS- Brandon Crawford 3B- Matt Williams LF- Barry Bonds CF- Willie Mays RF- Kevin Mitchell C- Mel Ott (sorry Buster) SP- Madison Bumgarner RP- Rod Beck Pretty good lineup, if you ask me The stuff about Kevin Mitchell in "The Bad Guys Won" about the 1986 Met team is crazy. He was an absolute wild man and basically any time a fight broke out, Kevin Mitchell ran into the fray and started throwing widowmakers. Here's a good one: I remember when Mitchell was traded from the Pads to the Mets because he would have all his gang banger buddies in the clubhouse.

I remember in the old days of the IMDB sports board calling Piazza a steroid guy and people just going ape shit and attacking me. That also happened around 2000 when I called Bonds a steroid guy. There are at least three juicers in the hall right now, Piazza, Bagwell and Irod. But when Bonds and clemens go in, I'm done. Hate to say it, but I would bet Kirby Puckett. Had all the traits, sudden power hitting, rapidly change in body shape, roid rage, short career, short life, "no neck syndrome". Canseco said he did but that could be a pot-kettle thing.
Wait, Canseco said Puckett juiced? I read his book and definitely do NOT remember that.

Who is your skipper? Any one of three, Jim Leyland, Joe Torre or Terry Francona. As far as baseball knowledge, my great granny could win with this team. As long as you could keep the egos in check. All three were capable of handling ego driven teams.

Man, Leyland had to manage Bonds, Van Slyke and Bonnila at the same time, three big egos.

Since you did the effort and I'm seeing it, it makes me curious now who would you cut down to get to 25?

I'll make an all Red Sox team for fun. 1B - Jimmie Foxx 2B - Dustin Pedroia SS - Nomar Garciaparra 3B - Wade Boggs LF - Ted Williams CF - Fred Lynn RF - Dwight Evans C - Carlton Fisk DH (That's right, I'm using a DH!)- Ortiz RHP - Pedro Martinez Huh? Where's Rice? I went position by position and unfortunately Jim was a left fielder. Wish I could've put Yaz on the list too, but it is what it is.
