www.freep.com/story/sports/mlb/tigers/2019/02/01/denny-mclain-cy-young-auction/2743385002/Owning a piece of history is expensive. But that might not matter to fans of Denny McLain, the eccentric former Detroit Tigers pitcher who helped the franchise win the 1968 World Series. But here's the kicker: You better act fast. McLain's 1969 Cy Young Award is up for auction on Lelands.com with a current bid of just under $11,000 at the time of this writing, and the betting closes for the one-of-a-kind piece of memorabilia at 10 p.m. tonight.

One of the true douchebags in sports. so you're not buying him an anchor steam brew? I would if I could. I tried to get ahold of him in the 90s because I wanted to write a script on him, his story is the Raging Bull of baseball.

Will anyone ever come close to a 30-win season again? Well, these days if a starting pitcher goes more than 4 innings, it's a minor miracle, so I'm gonna say no. We're going to a place where getting 10 wins by a starter will be cause for parades and feasts of hot dogs and large beers.

Will anyone ever come close to a 30-win season again? You'll have one of those 1998 Yankees / 2001 Mariners situations where the team wins 110+ games and one of its pitchers will be the beneficiary of 6 runs every single game. It obviously won't be the norm, but it'll happen at some point. Of course, it'll be some dipshit like Aaron Sele or someone like that who does it. Everything is cyclical and teams like to copy one another, for better or for worse.

Will anyone ever come close to a 30-win season again? Probably not. The average leader in starts for a year in in the 32-34 range, so you would have to be nearly perfect. A junkballer for a good team might A pticher who can consistently go 120+ pitches and not worry about their arm falling off on a team that scored a shitload of runs.
Denny McLain made 41 starts in 1968. And 28 complete games. That you will never see again.
