Joe McEwing deserves it for his ability to rake against Randy Johnson.

Dave Parker Rusty Staub
Even Tori Hunter has similar stats, but with a bunch of GG in the OF.

You could do a lot worse than Dwight Evans.

You could do a lot worse than Dwight Evans. He was a decent player. Good even. But in no way should he be considered a hall of famer.

So a guy with almost 2500 hits, 385 home runs, 1300 RBIs, and 8 Gold Gloves gets bumped from decent to good in Big Frank's book. Whoo-ooo!!! They're gonna sleep well at the Evans house tonight!

The point is, whatever adjective you want to use, other than defensive metrics, even Baines had generally better numbers than Evans.

I don't think either one of them are Hall of Famers, but at least Evans was an accomplished player both at the plate and in the field. Truthfully, I would take Dwight Evans on my team before Harold Baines and not feel that bad about it at all.

The slightly better batting stats of Baines are worth less than what Evans brings defensively in addition to his bat.
