Sure but it does draw attention to his latest movie, "Cold Pursuit"
"A snowplow driver seeks revenge against the drug dealers he thinks killed his son."

Obviously people react to a disturbing story, but when the guy says 'this decades ago, and I'm ashamed of it' and he volunteered the story, and it wasn't 'uncovered' and hasn't 'resurfaced' then I really don't understand what the issue is.

Every film he's been in in the last decade has been dreary shite.
He just doesn't cut it as a geriatric action man.

I do really love that movie, but since then that is the only movie he makes sans The Grey, which was also excellent.

I quite enjoy most of his movies. "A Walk Among Tombstones" was decent. He doesn't pretend to be an "artiste". He plays the tough guy pretty convincingly and brings loads of charisma to his films. He plays the same part more or less all the time, although he was the best thing in "Kingdom of Heaven" playing a Crusader. and perfect as "Schindler"
Leave our Neeson alone.

The odd thing is that he was a really highly regarded 'artist' of an actor before he went into the so called 'geri-action' genre. He sort of started it and Taken had basically just one good little piece of dialogue that kicked off a new trend of movies. But the conceit was kind of to see this respected thespian do this movie where he just does nothing but murder half of Europe for 90 mins. It was just odd that he made that choice to go from dramatic roles to almost exclusively doing shitty action movies. He must enjoy it to some degree, and he probably just enjoys working all the time and those are the offers he gets. He has said that he's gonna stop doing action movies soon though. He was also attached to Lincoln for a long time but turned it down becuase he said he was too old when he's only a few years older than Daniel Day Lewis, and would only have only been a few years older than Lincoln at the time of his death.

He had been a respected non-controversial actor until his wife died and I wonder if that kicked him off. He keeps himself busy. Since Taken in 2008, he has made about 60 movies/TV series/voice overs. That's a busy man over the span of 10 years. In the period 2002-2008, he made 12. (His wife was killed in a ski accident in 2009). Alternatively, he may just owe the Taxman a few dollars.

Basically. As someone else just pointed out: So there's your answer. He goes where the money is. Can't blame an aging actor for taking every paycheck he can get. I definitely think he invented the 'geri-action' genre. At least he popularized it. I don't know anything about the Taken production (love that movie by the way, absolutely ridiculous), but I always assumed it was made as a spoof of American action films. The fact that it was such a huge hit probably had the Frenchmen who made it laughing all the way to the bank.
