Why the fuck is it called a "Decimation"? Decimate means reduce by 10%. Thanos reduced the population by 50%, not 10%.

Yeah I have a nerdy history problem with it too, but words change. Look up the word origin of Moot Point. Now it means: " a point not worth debating or an irrelevant argument." It's original meaning: "a point open to debate or open to argument" The meaning switched completely. At least in this case it's evolved to mean to reduce drastically especially in number (webster's 3rd definition) so not exactly the 10% of Roman Army Justice System, but atleast it doesn't mean to spare lives like the reversal Moot had.

Decimation has always bothered me as well. Probably because it has a mathematical context to it and thus it's value should remain fixed. The gradual shift in the view of 'moot' always made sense to me. An argument being moot shifted from being debatable to pointless simply because in its original context, you're saying 'we could talk about this all day,' but who wants to do that? It's as if you're realizing the point is debatable but you know a conclusion won't be reached, so why bother? So eventually it became a reference to something you just don't want to talk about or is irrelevant. That evolution over time makes sense to me, whereas decimation was clearly just a lack of understanding by those using it, to the point where it became a generic catchall phrase for devastation.

Yeah there is a natural progression with Moot. I also think the environment with which it was used helped. A teaching one where you are doing mock trials by underclassmen. We've all felt the uselessness of that kind of teaching. Decimation change was more like pure laziness... This is anal of me, but it bothers me that July and August weren't put as the 11th and 12th month. Leaving September, October, November and December not as the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th month.

Oh, and I don't really like this theory. What would be the point of dropping those characters into another universe? I understand using the multiverse concept to introduce new characters, but the whole point of the MCU is its interconnectivity. We enjoy seeing Doctor Strange talk to Iron Man, Rocket talk to Thor, Groot talk to Cap, etc. Taking away half of the characters permanently is taking away half of the opportunities for fun exchanges and adventures.
While I do think the characters are stuck in soul world at the moment, I believe they'll find their way back-- while some of those left behind will have to sacrifice themselves to make it happen.

Yeah the reverse of what I thought might happen does kinda suck in that regard. (the decimation cause mutants to come in from another universe) I personally hope, but have little faith, that it will be something different than we've all theorized. I am not expecting some mind blowingly different scenario, but something a little bit from left field would be nice.
