I've Nola, Dominguez, & Robertson on my fantasy team. Prepare for 200 combined days on the IL.

Win the WC if they just sign Harper.....

phils picked up juan segura during the offseason - I like the move - managed to get rid of JP and Santana in the process.
as much as Franco takes flack here - he was supposed to be the cornerstone of the rebuild at 3rd - and signed a large contract after a respectable rookie here - he has disappointed - but to call a spade a spade shows flashes and is a respectable player and not a bust like JP. rap on him has been his always swing for the fences.
many believe its the incentive in his contract on how many home runs he hits - i.e. that he never tries to bat for average or put the ball in place - and hence he's a selfish player playing for himself.
rumors were if Machado signed early - Franco would have been gone - and he just may be if they sign Machado since they have Segura now.
gotta be a way to work everyone in - segura has played some 2nd - granted that's where Hernandez is at right now and where Kingery was slotted as an everyday player. would love Hernandez as a speedy utility bat off the bench just like I wanted to keep Galvis in that role too.

kapler reported that Arrieta had minor knee surgery recently to clean a meniscus problem and should be on schedule for the start of the year or shortly after.
he'll be 33 in March.
please don't rush him back. hold him out for a month if need be - it's a marathon - not a sprint.
would hate to see him come back the 2nd week of the season and re-aggravate it

I'm not a professional athlete obviously, but I was walking around without issue within a week and back in the gym 3 weeks later back on my normal routine. Obviously, they'll slow him down in spring training, but there's zero reason to think he won't be perfectly fine come Opening Day. Meniscus clean-up surgeries are about as benign as getting a cavity filled. Unless he really tore the thing, there's nothing to worry about.

I read 'Meniscus' and I panic - i.e. what Jahlil Okafor went through on the Sixers.
Now apparently it was a partial tear and not a cleanup like the above - but he was slated to be back well before his return date (and if memory serves many somebody can correct me if I'm wrong missed the last 1/3 of the season after he was slated to be out for like only a month tops.
But I think there were other issues with Oak
Apparently it's come out that Jerad Eickhoff is still suffering from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome too after surgery. Ugh.
Is there any cure for this? Pretty much 'Tennis Elbow'?

I donβt get why athletes wait so close to the start of the season / pre-season to have these surgeries. I mean, do you not own a calendar?

Some will state 'Well - they thought an extensive rehab would fix the problem'.
Bullsh*t. The cynic in me thinks there's a hidden agenda by the player (just like whats going on with Harper and Machado and NFL stars sitting out training camp who don't see reporting/signing as 'crucial' if they're superstars and will just sign a week before the season) - well - I'm just going to take more time off and get paid for it - after all the baseball season doesn't really start until July 4th anyway.
Get your surgery done the 1st day of the 'offseason' - then start 'rehabbing' from your surgery and come back at 100%
None of this lagging injury BS - 'Well he may be ready the start of the season - he just went through cautionary surgery last week - 3 months ago he was on a beach in Tahiti sipping a Mojito'

I remember Shaq getting foot/tow surgeries in October, and when asked why he didn't get it done in the summer, he said something like that was "his" time. He wasn't rehabbing on his time, or something.
