what was the Ichiro signing all about? one of those '1 Day' contracts as he retires as a Mariner? or are they actually keeping him around on the roster? guess it would be nice to have a vet presence and established team/city star like that in the clubhouse even if he plays sporadically - but would detractors state he's taking up a roster spot that could go to a young kid - or would some argue that 'young kid' would be better off spending time enhancing/developing his skills on the farm? i.e. you have Ichiro around as a player/coach type of role to mentor the young kids I've been on business trips to Washington state during baseball season, and you cannot believe how much they love Ichiro up there. He's like a rock star there, the Mariners could hire him to throw bags of peanuts at people, and everybody would be happy beyond belief. True. Ichiro was an amazing player to watch. As an M's fan myself, he is second only to Griffey.

As a life long M's fan I'm not planning on watching many games this year. It's been almost 20 years since we have made the playoffs. It's such a depressing organization. And this off season they have basically done the usual Mariners move of unloading every player of value in order to "rebuild" for the hundredth time. I don't expect us to win the division any time in the next fifty years.
