Is living with life long pain and brain damage after retirement really worth it?

Lifelong pain and brain damage hasn't slowed you down, has it?

Is living with life long pain and brain damage after retirement really worth it? Depends on the person.
You choose temporary fame, money and glory for a few years for the 'possibility' of a downfall.
I actually quite enjoy topics like this.
It's like Lance Armstrong.
He lied to and bullied people for years covering up quite possibly the greatest scam in Sports History - was on top of the world - one would think he had to know everything would eventually come crashing down and out in the future.
However he sacrificed his name and future for present fame and glory.
It's kind of like people saying they'd rather die young and have fun with money - other than face a life of being old and living alone in poverty.

Lifelong pain and brain damage hasn't slowed you down, has it? Got nothing else but insults really shows us your lack of debating skills. And I dunno why the put down where I didn't do any insulting at you first. I'm just bringing up something for discussion and you don't have to be an asshole about it unless you really are always being an asshole around here.

You could say the same thing about other sports too like boxing, wrestling and ice hockey.

It of course all depends on the person. For some athletes professional sports is really the only thing they're good at and it is their best way to make a living and or provide for their families. It's a question to ask them not really a group of randoms on a message board imo.

Track and Soccer are pretty much 2 sports that 'anybody' could play as a kid - and are non-physical (sorry hardcore soccer fans - we're talking the kids level here)
But what is intriguing to me is - I wonder if baseball will in fact make a comeback over the next decade or so and if parents don't push their children in that direction.
Gotta admit - If I was a parent - I'd have reservations about letting my child wrestle, play football - and would likely push them towards track, soccer, baseball, tennis.......

They probably don't have any other skills to make them even 6 figures a year in the private job sector. Sure, they all go to college but then some don't finish to go into the NFL draft right away. And then aren't there some who go to college just to play ball and might have a worthless and easy major that would not be used to get a job if they didn't play ball? I just wonder if we will ever see the number of players in football go down the more the info gets out about brain damaged players, which is something the NFL does all they can to cover up. Being s kicker or punter doesn't look so bad now after all.

The problem is that inner city kids don't play baseball much anymore as it's thought of as a boring game and difficult to master.

I think the AAF and Polian is on to something here - and it's the direction the NFL has been leaning for a few years regarding kickoffs (look at all of the touchbacks).
I think in a matter of years the NFL is going to go 'AAF' style and ban kickoffs.
Found it interesting today I learned the AAF is going to be on the NFL Network. And also Polian is a top notch former NFL exec who has been touting a 'Minor League' so to speak for the NFL - his hope - that is essentially the AAF - a minor league for the NFL.

Oh man. Love that movie and love that scene. Then again, I love every scene! There would be so much outcry if that came out today but it's so fucking true! Blacks play basketball. What's wrong with showing the obvious to be used as a joke?

Pretty sure it's been noted that soccer actually has a high rate of concussions as well.

20, 30 years from now, I can see the NFL being made up of nothing but convicts, working off their sentence by agreeing to play football for the masses.
Fewer in and fewer families are allowing their kids to play football. Hell, even Trump came out and said that he wouldn't want his kid to play the game. This is slowly becoming a problem for the NFL.
But the masses always want blood, so football will still be played, but in more of a "Running Man" kind of deal, it will only be played by convicts and the lowest of the low.
Laugh now, but this will happen.

Dude, I must confess that at one point of time I did think you are the single most obnoxious leftist poster out there. But my views have changed. I enjoy your posts nowadays. Sorry that I felt otherwise a few years back.

That clip is weird. Why the fuck is there a kookaburra sound in the background (which is an Australian native bird) when it’s clearly meant to be Africa ?
