I love stories centered on the competition between Portugal, Spain, England et al in their early attempts to cement their own priesthood and trade in 17th century Japan. Shogun, Taipan, any historical works on the time. The clash between cultures makes for interesting facts and even more interesting fictions based on those facts. Since I enjoy that time period and those tales, I have a lot of context to enjoy more works centered in that time even more.
And all that said, "Silence", Scorcese's new film about precisely what I outlined above, sucked. It drug like a sack of wet tennis balls dipped in ranch dressing.
So. Boring. And. Devoid. Of. Character. Investment.
Lovely cinematography, though.

Have you tried heroin? It really helps with such movies as 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Unbearable Lightness Of Being and The Remains Of The Day. Anyway, I'm the only true judge of a St. Martin movie. All educated people agree on that. I'll grace you with my opinion as soon as I watch it.
Oh, and there's no second C in SCORSESE.

Heroin won't save this movie. I like most of his movies, but this one was a real misfire.
