The issue with this strategy is there isn’t added incentive to see every movie. What if the trailers for Flash look bad? It’s okay, Tsujihara disconnected it from the main narrative because it’s not their focus anymore. Would have been great for it to be the one to tie into the BvS vision scene, but who cares what the fans want, right?
Why can’t you just do whatever story you were going to do, but tie it in? Why can’t Superman pop up in Shazam, or have team up movies smaller than JL? Seems like a needless mistake. Batman popping up in SS was arguably the best part. Cyborg/Flash teamup sounded much better than Cyborg stand-alone. Without the direct connective tissue like that, it’s not much of an extended universe, it’s whatever the hell Cloverfield is doing.
Isn’t the whole point of this to get to the next Justice League? If that’s no longer a goal, why keep any of the actors aside from Momoa and Gadot at all? At least this way you can avoid the PR ‘reboot’ backlash because there were no expectations for what you already abandoned. Irony is part of the reason JL failed was because Tsujihara needed to have it come out ASAP to get his bonuses on time. Now he’s done a complete 180 to where he doesn’t want to make another at all, or until whatever ‘at some point’ is supposed to mean:
Shazam! (David F. Sandberg) - 4/5/19
Joker (Todd Phillips/Joaquin Phoenix) – 10/4/19
