At approximately 5:00 pm, on October 11, 1993, 9 year old Stephanie Crane, of Challis, Idaho, was dropped off at a local bowling alley by her mother. She went bowling with her friends, and then left the bowling alley when they were done. She had been seen walking on highway 93 at around 6:00 pm. It is unclear whether she was supposed to go to the high school across the street for soccer practice, or whether she was headed home. Nine o’clock had passed, and her parents notified the police. A search covering about 7,000 square miles took place, with no sign of her. Police believe that a yellow pickup truck with red pinstripes was in the vicinity, and that it may have something to do with her disappearance. They also believe that Keith Hescock may be connected to her disappearance, and Amber Hoopes’ disappearance as well. He had also kidnapped a 14 year old girl outside of her home on June 5, 2002, and he had known her family. She was able to successfully escape. When the police tried to arrest Hescock, he led them on a high speed chase, and killed a police dog, wounded an officer, and committed suicide. According to Hescock’s neighbor, he had been hunting in Challis, Idaho on the weekend Stephanie disappeared, and owned a similar pickup truck to the one mentioned earlier. Unfortunately, authorities could not link him to either disappearance. His only criminal record in Idaho was for poaching, but he had felonies in other states. Authorities believe she was taken against her will by a stranger. What are your theories to what could have happened? Charley Project: charleyproject.org/case/stephanie-lyn-crane
