Flop or not? The future of the MCU depends on it.

Nah, it's not gonna flop. Regardless of the controversies surrounding it it's still an MCU movie and the MCU has never released a movie that flopped, especially not in recent times.

Not a flop. That's what artificial boosters are for.

Usually, movies like that are expected to make at least 2x their production budget back in order to not be considered a loss. In terms of box office numbers, the film only made $18 million more than the Ang Lee film, and that movie was regarded as a disappointment.

I guess, but one out of 20 isn’t exactly a problem. Marvel was still finding their footing at the time.

In a world where Guardians 2 underperforms without any controversy at all, I have to believe the box office won't reach it's potential. It will make money. They will call it a great success. But believe me when I say it won't make what it could have made. ??

What does that even mean? You could say that about Avatar. Was there an Avatar controversy that might have turned people off from seeing it? Probably? What I meant was was unless everyone on the planet with disposable income buys a ticket, no movie has ever made what it could have made.

In what way did it underperform? It made more than the first one.

So basically TIH was a flop. Remember when you said Spiderman Homecoming was a flop ... then it crushed Wonder Woman at the box office. LMAO!

In what way did it underperform? It made more than the first one. Barely. Do you think that's what they expected? It made $56 million more domestically than its predecessor, and $90 million more worldwide. That’s a reasonable growth.

Second movies in a series often make less than the first. The Empire Strikes Back is one example. Was it a flop?
