People are dumb in this regard sure. Also chose the "empowered" woman option though had it in quotes in my mind. She does make a compelling villain though no doubt there, plays the evil ruler well. Everyone may hate her but I guess in her mind they're all just jelly.

I am asking what people think, or better see, other people are mostly thinking, because there simply aren't enough Cersei admirers for direct questioning, so this can be tricky.

Because she is an awesome character. The Lannisters are BY FAR the most interesting characters on the show and my favorite. Tyrion was always a fan favorite because of his witty lines and Peter's fantastic acting. Jamie was a favorite of most in the books and he has redeemed himself on the show. He is a very interesting character because of the conflicting situations he is always in. I like that the two women in his life are Brienne and Cersei because they are the perfect representation of the two sides of Jamie. Tywin might have been the best character on the show. He was tremendously acted and well written. He might have also been the most intelligent character. Cersei is hated by some because, let's face it, she can be a huge bitch, but she is so well acted and her character is so fun. She does what she needs to for herself and her family and everyone else can go to Hell. I like that. The Starks are the good guys and cool, especially Arya, and Dany has the most plot armor and dragons so you are almost forced to root for her, because the writers lead you in that direction, but the Lannisters have always been the most interesting characters and the most dynamic characters.

Interesting. It confirms what I have seen elsewhere, and while I think it strange at first, it actually illustrates this all too common tendency of any "somethingist" to drag whatever they possibly can to the service of the cause they support. Yes, the story makes many of these points, yes it makes a point of showing Cersei as subject to gender norms, but it also shows her acceptance of them, several times. I see Cersei as a strong individualist, as someone who decides for herself what and whom she cares for, not as someone who cares or fights for women in any particular fashion. She never considered the possibility of being queen regnant before there was no other choice, even told uncle Kevan naming her "Hand of the King" would not be appropriate in S5. The oldest feminist in the game was Lady Olenna, not Cersei who replied that things are simply as they are. Cersei is the conservative in their constellation. Cersei is not the one who traps the male leaders of a whole people to burn them alive after having provoked one of them into a rage as a fake excuse.

Cersei is not the one who traps the male leaders of a whole people to burn them alive after having provoked one of them into a rage as a fake excuse. No, she's the one who usurps her son's rule and blows everyone to kingdom come rather than submit to the concordat he negotiated.
Dany was the recognized Queen of Meereen who responded to an act of war by the Dothraki by defeating their leadership with an army of three, then the host bowed before her rule.
No excuse was needed on Dany's part, imprisoning a monarch is cassus belli.
