Some people have accused me of misquoting Brie Larson's comments so I'll post her exact words here:
"I don’t need a 40-year-old white dude to tell me what didn’t work about A Wrinkle in Time. It wasn’t made for him!"
Does anyone dispute that Brie Larson said that? OK, so we've confirmed that those are Brie Larson's exact words and I haven't misquoted what Brie Larson said.
So if an actor or actress said "I don’t need a 40-year-old black dude to tell me what didn’t work about [insert any movie here]. It wasn’t made for him!", everyone would agree that's a racist comment.
Or if an actor or actress said "I don’t need a 40-year-old Asian dude to tell me what didn’t work about [insert any movie here]. It wasn’t made for him!", everyone would agree that's a racist comment.
So why do people actually have the audacity to defend and support Brie Larson for her racist comments?

Because she is also white. Next question.

I don’t need a DC-Fan to tell me what works about Brie Larson’s comments. They weren’t made for you!
Lol just kidding. I have a question though. If Brie Larson wasn’t Captain Marvel, would you be bringing this up on here or would you even mention it at all?
Honestly she’s just a privileged actress and her comments kind of mean absolutely nothing. White males will never be discriminated against and the idea that she’s going to change the whole damn world is ridiculous. Just get over Brie Larson. All anybody is doing is bring more and more attention to her.
No matter the opinion, be it negative or positive, everyone is just promoting the hell out of this movie. Hating on her has just caused women or as some would say, “feminazis” to go out and see the movie in droves.
Hating on Brie Larson has literally made this movie more successful. So if that’s your goal then keep on trucking because it’s being accomplished.

How many times will DC Fan get owned in this thread, I wonder?

I doubt that most critics are middle aged white men. Diversity is already happening, we don’t need some silly bitch to target any group in her virtue signalling. It doesn’t help the matter at all. It only divides us.
And those critics have given Black Panther and Captain Marvel decent (overrated in BP’s case, dunno about CM’s yet) ratings so WTF is she talking about? Maybe A Wrinkle in Time just sucked. People like her are the reason that critics are giving unearned higher scores to minority themed films. The real victim is the medium itself. Dumb bimbo.

That’s not why I labelled her a virtue signaller. For her to be sticking up for a group there has to be a group which was discriminated against. If not, it’s just virtue signalling. Do you not agree with the concept that some expressions of championing social justice are sometimes done for selfish reasons? It’s even more pronounced if the claim is dubious.

Ok, so I found a report about the demographics of cinema critics. Whites are slightly over represented and males are highly over represented. news.usc.edu/144379/usc-study-finds-film-critics-like-filmmakers-are-largely-white-and-male/But this still doesn’t prove that making the demographics of critics more proportional to their numbers in society would make any difference to film criticism. Actually, the reverse is probably true, given Black Panther’s bloated praise. Maybe A Wrinkle is Time was likewise given too much praise, and is actually even worse than it’s reviews suggest.

Anyone who isn't a middle aged white guy. That's the direct text of her comments. She wants more inclusivity in film criticism. The fact that you refuse to recognize that doesn't make it virtue signaling.

The fact that you refuse to recognize that doesn't make it virtue signaling. And I say that it’s happening anyway and best to happen organically. Plus the figures, especially concerning race, aren’t hugely disproportionate. White people are about 60% of the US population. If they’re 72% of film critics (and falling, conceivably) then I’d suggest that her contempt for the status and her choice of words are less altruistic and more virtue signalling.

Anyone who follows film criticism knows this, and this was her point. The fact that her comment became some kind of rallying cry for people like you is pathetic. "How dare this 'silly bitch' express her opinion on film criticism! Who does she think she is, a person whose opinion we should respect? Why would anyone speak up on behalf of anyone else? This is madness! I don't understand it at all, it must be virtue signaling. BOYCOTT!!!" Maybe A Wrinkle In Time just sucked. Sure looked like shit to me. That isn't the point of this discussion anymore. You're attacking an actress in an incredibly juvenile way because you're upset that she wants more inclusivity. Sometimes celebs get preachy. It can get obnoxious, I get it. But it's incredible how her comments were blown out of proportion and turned from a defense of the underserved to an attack on all that is right and good in this world. Time to move on. You lost this battle, Captain Marvel is a roaring success despite the small group of angry white guys who don't think anyone else deserves a seat at the table. Go take the #Alitachallenge to make yourself feel better.

BULLSHIT!!!If all Brie Larson said was "A Wrinkle in Time was directed by a black person so I would like to hear more opinions from black people on that movie", people wouldn't have a problem with that. But Brue Larson specifically made it a point to say "I DON'T want to hear the opinions of white males on that movie because that movie ISN'T for white males." So Brie Larson wasn't calling for inclusivity. Brie Larson was calling for EXCLUSIVITY of certain movie critics based not on their poor job performance but based solely on their race. That is the definition of racism, which you are supporting and defending.

The fact that you're this angry about it says it all about your (lack of) character. But none of this is surprising. Is this just anger that you were dead wrong (again) about Captain Marvel underperforming on opening weekend? What bothers you more, that the film had a bigger global opening weekend than BvS, or that Captain Marvel made more in its opening weekend in March than Wonder Woman made in its opening week during the summer movie season? Get medicated, man. You're going to hurt yourself.

I have difficulty wrestling with how not wrong I think it is. Anybody here seen A Wrinkle in Time? It's a couple years later and I still can't be bothered. At a glance, it looks like it's about 3 fairy godmothers but I'm probably wrong.
It's just the way it is. It shouldn't come as a surprise to anybody that not all things are catering to you. If someone came and told me the Teletubbies weren't exactly made for me, the phrase "no shit" comes to mind.

You're wrong and you know it, which is why you can't expand on the topic. Her comments aren't racist when both she and the focus of her comments represent the establishment. Seek help.

Can black people not enjoy Captain Marvel (probably not, but only because it’s apparently underwhelming), and was it not made for them as well? She’s demented.
