Adoption lottery also makes me think of all the others who were not adopted and face imminent execution. Why must you always be that way? Watch and learn, you pessimistic, half-empty, devil's advocate wannabe... Have you saved one lately? I used that story when I was working for an animal shelter as the development officer/communications liaison with the media. It's a wonderful way of saying that you can make a difference. We had people who donated $10 a month, because they couldn't afford to donate $15. I made certain everyone of them knew that they made a difference.

It's good that you are channelling your grief into something positive and I hope she appreciates you and Catwoman.

FOR CRYIN OUT LOUD gameboy .. WHY DON'T YOU START A NEW THREAD IF YOU NEED SO BADLY TO DISCUSS THE ISSUE ! Because he's purposely being a dick and really needs to fuck off to another thread. Ain't it so there gameboy ? Look, I'm an old IMDb warrior and the purpose of these boards is to discuss such issues which folks tend to avoid. What better place to vet this very real issue of selective pet adoption and euthanasia of strays, then on a thread about adoption of one lucky cat who was spared execution while every other kitty in that shelter died? Sorry, I can only take so much of this back patting and group hugging before I need to discuss a real world issue of import. Social Justice Warrior?

Social Justice Warrior? No, lol. I just can't imagine why they're getting so upset. They would never have survived IMDb's Soapbox if they're gonna be that anal. This isn't the old Soapbox. People like being nice here.

This isn't the old Soapbox. People like being nice here. I guess it should have been kept about Catman's generosity, but rescuing an animal from a shelter, does naturally bring up other issues that underlie the reasons for the shelter's existence. I wouldn't say that Gameboy isn't not being nice, just went off on a tiny tangent. Still sort of relevant. Well, now gameboy has a platform to address it - I have started a thread about the sheltering debate. And yes, it is relevant.

Well, now gameboy has a platform to address it - I have started a thread about the sheltering debate. And yes, it is relevant. Thanks Rachel. But the time to discuss it is when the topic is raised, as it was on this thread. The adoption of the one lucky cat made me think immediately of the other ones condemned to death. I make no apologies for broaching the issue on this thread. This is exactly where it had to be discussed. You can't isolate this one event from the whole issue. Shame on posters here for trying to hide this important topic. It cannot be swept under the rug, so to speak. So, what's your point? All you have done is shame people. What should they do? No one is trying to hide this important topic. Have at it. On the appropriate thread. What so YOU think should be done? What are YOU doing to change it?

NO ! it is not appropriate at all. It's a TIME and PLACE thing.
Your insistence on continuing the "discussion" reminds me of the people who wait until someone has died to express their distaste for that person and to point out all the things wrong with the guest of honor at the memorial service.
No one is sweeping anything under any rug and there is even a nice new thread about ADOPTION OF COMPANION ANIMALS and SHELTERS. Why not join the discussion over there and leave us to enjoy our new furry family member here ?

So, what's your point? All you have done is shame people. What should they do? No one is trying to hide this important topic. Have at it. On the appropriate thread. What so YOU think should be done? What are YOU doing to change it? I shamed nobody. Never did I say Catman was required to take home 20 cats. But when the topic of pet adoption in a shelter is raised, we must also draw attention to the larger problem - all the animals which are left behind to die. THIS IS THE APPROPRIATE THREAD TO RAISE THE ISSUE. You're just sweeping the problem under the rug. All I can do at this point is to raise the issue on the thread where the topic was initially discussed. Jeezus christ. Point raised, though I must point out that you did shame posters for trying to sweep it under the rug. Now you have a thread dedicated to something you feel strongly about. Use that thread. Discuss the issue. Again, what do you think should be done? If you do not respond to that thread, it is you that is sweeping the issue under the rug. I've brought it out in the open where people know what the issue is, not hidden in a thread about Catman adopting a new kitty. Want to be heard? Use the thread. I've been in sheltering and rescue for 40 years. What do you have to say about the issue? It's a passion of mine, I'll discuss it all day long - on the proper thread.

The point of all of this is for him to passive-aggressively derail this thread. Please. I raised an important topic because the topic was being discussed. If every person who adopted an animal would also think about this issue, we'd be a long way to addressing the problem. You'r just being petty and mean spirited. Nice try, but I know when someone is gas lighting me. And that's the end of this on my part because I won't derail this thread any further.

Nope, I raised an important topic because the rest of you were ignoring it. I've done my job here. Don't break your arm patting yourself on the back. And I, too, will not respond to you further on this thread.
