I suggest not posting any videos of the joke because it is too dirty for people under the age of 18.

Not sure a best exists. And I sat through that whole documentary. I'm assuming that Gilbert Gottfried's is the best. I laughed so hard I thought I was going to pass out and it is hard not to feel ashamed while laughing at such disturbing content.

Call me a fuddy duddy but I generally find the whole shocking for the sake of being shocking school of comedy rather dull. I do like it when the shocking stuff comes out of the situation though.

Shocking for the sake of shocking can be very effective depending on how well it is done imo. I wouldn't say the joke is shocking simply for the sake of it though. It is shocking so that the punchline pays off more imo. Shocking for the sake of shocking would be if the joke didn't lead anywhere.

I just listened to a version by Gilbert Gottfried and it did nothing for me.
But then, I dislike both the joke and the comedian.

That movie was a waste of my life. I only watched it because my teacher hyped it up so much. Probably Sarah Silverman is the only small laugh I got out of it.

You knew you were going to hate it before you even listened to it. No, it was the first time I had heard it. I thought that might be obvious from the first line of my post. I reached my conclusion about the joke and the comedian afterwards. Why would I listen to it if I already knew I didn't like it? That's not very logical or sensible, now is it?

You worded it in a way that suggested you already knew the premise of the joke and already hated Gilbert Gottfried as a comedian. That is how it came off to me anyway. EDIT: Okay, I will admit that I misread the first line of your reply. You said you just listened to a version, I thought it read the. Those two words can make all the difference. My fault. It still came off like you already disliked Gilbert Gottfried as a comedian though. I personally don't think you can judge a comedian based on just one joke that the comedian didn't even write.

My first sentence indicated that I had just listened to the joke by that comedian and my opinion of it.. My second sentence indicated the reason for my opinion.

BEVERLY HILLS COP II. I simply thought he overacted terribly. I didn't know he was also a comedian.

It is also certainly understandable to hate the whole idea of the Aristocrats joke. It is an extremely off color joke that is meant to disturb the listener and the purpose is for comedians to one up eachother to see how creatively disgusting they can go with it. I imagine Gilbert Gottfried is one of the few comedians who can actually make that joke funny. Comedy is very subjective and I personally have a very sick and twisted sense of humor.

And as an Aussie, I have to say I've generally found that Aussie humour aligns more closely with the Poms than the Septics. Although times are changing... as they always do.

Shocking for the sake of shocking can be very effective depending on how well it is done imo. I wouldn't say the joke is shocking simply for the sake of it though. It is shocking so that the punchline pays off more imo. Shocking for the sake of shocking would be if the joke didn't lead anywhere. The punchline is just mildly funny to me so perhaps that is the problem.

I was sure the punchline was going to be "What do you do for an encore?", not
"What do you call yourselves?" "The Aristocrats" , which I thought was very weak.
Nearly ten minutes of my life wasted right there...

Maybe this would have worked better as a short film, not a full-length movie. The "jokes" are just a series of dirty situations, which sound more like a bunch of teenagers trying to be filthy than the work of comedians. It got tiresome after the first 20 minutes or so. That said, it was mentioned in the film that Jack Benny performed a good version of the joke. I would have like to have heard a recording of Benny delivering it, just for the novelty of someone who worked clean to do so.
