When I played club golf the stigma of being caught cheating and the subsequent finger-pointing in the clubhouse,was intolerable and even the allegation of cheating caused a few members to resign.

I don't watch golf, but why don't they have a referee who does all this for them? Especially with all the money involved.
I mean in snooker, you don't let the players handle the balls when they need to be cleaned or replaced after a foul, the ref does all that. As the old saying goes, if you give them an inch, they'll take a mile.

Yep, but i will say at junior level it was rife, most grow out of it by 13 years old on. An adult caught cheating - You might as well leave the golf club that day.
