There's still the Joker solo movie and Matt Reeves' Batman anyway.

No, only Hack Snyder and Hack Snyder fannerds think that. Though if you really want heroes who are bloodthirsty serial killer's there's always that Titans show DC put out.

They were trying too doggone hard with the "serious", "grounded in reality", and "aimed at adults" angle. I don't mind them using those in any of their films as long as it's necessary to the plotlines and content. But, if they're just making their films "serious", "grounded in reality", and "aimed at adults" just because, then they're going about it all wrong.

Nope, you couldn't pay me to watch any more Snyderverse movies after the burning dumpster fire of Batfleck vs. Pseudoman. And yes, Shazaam! is part of that Snyderverse. They wanted Henry Cavill to do a cameo in it.

Nah. It became their main "selling" point for the Synderverse being "good", but they were pushing it long before Synder. The Nolanites would always use the "serious" and "grounded in reality" talking point to explain why Nolan's Batman was "better" than Tim Burton and the way DC characters should be depicted on screen.

WB should just have doubled down on fun/balanced/anything but overly dark Superman as the foundation of the universe after the Nolan trilogy ended. Nolan was self-contained so how much can one blame him for setting the atmosphere. Not much. The ball was in WB's hands and they gave it to Snyder and Goyer who was a leftover from Nolan's era.

There was nothing wrong with a dark superman, it gave us a more interesting human-like character than the dull Superman Returns arcetype boy scout.

I thought that Clark Kent/Superman in Man of Steel was great. It's just that the film felt a little too serious at times.

Captain America has done so poorly... Unsure of what you are implying? Temporal angst aside, CA has been faring well enough as an upstanding traditional superhero.
