I haven't seen Tender Mercies. Was it a career award or was Duvall really that good in it?

I haven't seen Tender Mercies. Was it a career award or was Duvall really that good in it? He’s good in it, although it’s a pretty foolproof part, and I suspect he probably would have won in many stronger years. 1983 being so weak certainly secured it for him, though.

I haven't seen Tender Mercies. Was it a career award or was Duvall really that good in it? He is very good in it imo. I don't think the competition was all that great that year, so I think he deserved the win.
