Mine would have to be David Naughton in "An American Werewolf In London" (1981). His transformation scene was like nothing ever seen before and changed werewolf movies forever.

You had to use the mythological term? Lol
Anyway my favourite would be Eddie Quist from The Howling. As under-utilized as he was, he’s the perfect werewolf villain.

No love for Lucian from the Underworld series? Such an awesome character, a shame the creaters didn't realize how popular he'd end up being. While it eventually turned to crap, the original trilogy is vastly underrated imo.

The Original: Lon, Jr. 2nd place : Harry Potter's Professor Lupin ~~ David Thewlis ... Believe it or not, I've never seen the original Lon Chaney, Jr. lycanthrope. (Love that word!) However, I definitely second your second choice, BAT. Professor Lupin is one of my favorite HP characters, and I've never quite forgiven JKR for killing him off, along with his charming mate, Tonks .

JK Rowling is a hack, plain and simple. She even admitted that she killed these two off just because she had a death quota for the series. Such an overrated and lousy writer.

ellynmacgThe original Wolf Man is best seen without commercials or Svengoolie breaks. As a non-"real"-fan-du-genre, I recommend it. It sets much of the mythology of the rest of the werewolf stories although they have made many MANY changes to it. The first one, for me, was the best because it is pure story and has not all the bells and whistles that followed. Chaney is impressively good in it and there's Claude Rains for a topper to it all !

TutuAnimationPrincess The LUPIN character as it stands is a really good one (imo) How and why he ended not important.
This is not a "let us diss (or praise) the writing ability of Rowling thread". We can move to BOOKS for that and you can probably join a bash session already in progress !

Well...it's only important to me because I would've liked to see him survive...along with several other characters. Heck, there are characters in many, many other books and movies (quite apart from HP) whose deaths I've never quite got over. However, one can always imagine them surviving, and one can even write them an alternative ending...that's why the Good Lord gave us fan-fic! This would be a good time for me to get back on topic by mentioning another werewolf...however, not being much of a devotee of the horror genre, the only one that comes to mind is Beast Boy, the little green guy in the animated TV version of Teen Titans. Of course, he wasn't a full time wolf-boy. But he had very cute fangs.

ellynmacg I quite agree about the Loss of Lupin …. was hoping to derail the incipient anti-JKR_rant when the hollering about hackness was still in the brewing stage and had not yet taken over the thread Seem to remember there being a thread about the wereclan last year (probably around October 31) on the Classica Film board. General discussion ~ not a limiting "pick a favorite" one.

I'm not entirely sure what it means to be tagged, but let me assure you I had no intentions of starting an anti anything thread. While I may heavily disagree with many of JKR's decisions, I wasn't trying to change the topic of this thread. If anything, I'd love for more over to be thrown at Lucian, the character I originally praised in this topic.
