Was just thinking, maybe it would have been better if Yon-Rogg was never in Captain Marvel. Ronan instead would have taken his place as Vers' instructor. This would have taken care of a number of points:
1. It would give Ronan a chance to be a more fleshed out character. 2. It would cement Captain Marvel as a bigger badass when she defeats Ronan (since we know Ronan is a pretty formidable opponent). 3. It would have given Ronan an explanation as to why he went rogue in GOTG, considering the humiliation he received at the hands of Carol in the end 4. His constant criticisms of Carol's emotions would make more sense since Ronan is infamous for being emotionless. 5. It would explain Korath's relationship to Ronan 6. He'd actually be blue, which would be more consistent with Kree coloring 7. Him being the blood donor of Carol would further explain Carol's heightened physicality compared to the average Kree considering Ronan is an upper-tier Kree.

Absolutely. Given how he's a radical it would work even better with him wanting to exterminate the Skrulls, possibly humanity as well.
Definitely a missed opportunity by Marvel.

The only downsides I can think of: 1. It's repetitive, we've already had Ronan as the big bad in a film. With the stable of characters Marvel has to choose from they shouldn't have to go back to the Ronan well. 2. People are already complaining Carol is overpowered. If you have her dominate Ronan, who handled an Infinity Stone by himself (still waiting for an explanation on that), an even larger section of the audience would be assuming she could take Thanos by herself.

I wouldn't worry about point #1. Loki was the main villain in both Thor and Avengers and it did wonders for his popularity. But your point #2 is indeed worth noting. They would need to make sure that Carol struggles against Ronan. If she defeats Ronan as easily as she defeated Yon-Rogg than that would definitely be cause for concern.
