Hard to believe this is now 25 years old. I kind of grew up with the Might Ducks movies since they were popular when I was in middle school. I've always found this installment of the franchise to be the best of the three films and another sequel that, while not one of the best sequels of all-time, it is superior to the first film like with something like Lethal Weapon 2.
Being better than the first Might Ducks film isn't a huge accomplishment for D2, but I chalk it down to a few reasons why it's superior: Introduction stuff out of the way in the first film, raised stakes with the Ducks competing in the Olympic games, and a better villain team with team Iceland compared to the Hawks from the previous film.
Some general thoughts on the three Mighty Duck films:
The Might Ducks: Decent although it's predictable and cliched. Emilio Estevez is fine enough though as the coach. If you've seen one "misfits-join-up-and-become-a-team-and-win" film, then this is no different at all.
D2: The Mighty Ducks: Entertaining sequel and that's mostly due to the reasons I've mentioned. Sure, like with the first it's predictable and cliched, but good qualities of the film make it entertaining. Probably should have stopped here with the franchise.
D3: The Might Ducks: Watchable, but definitely feels like the franchise was running out of gas and it's still predictable and cliched. It feels as if it maybe were one film too many. Having Estevez in a reduced role hurts the film. His participation here feels like Tommy Lee Jones's participation in Men in Black 3. The new coach lacks personality and the Varsity hockey team feels like it's being played by a bunch of 30 year olds.

First of all, I disagree. The first Mighty Ducks is superior. I like the redemption arc of Bombay much better than the forced redemption story of the Sequel.
Also, it makes no sense they are a crappy D-5 team that only makes the playoffs because a team gets the measels and now they are in the Olympics?
I also think the 3rd one would have benefited from going back to the roots of part one. They should have had Charlie and the OG ducks in Public High School trying out for the JV team and Banks goes to Varsity with his old Hawks teammates. Bombay goes back to drinking after being a lawyer again. He ends up finally getting with Charlie's mom and she helps him recover. Make it a more rooted story like part one.

I always liked the first 2 Duck films a lot as a kid. The third felt a little too teen drama for me, even when I was a teen.
Loved the additions to the cast in the second film...but looking back Peter and Karp were pretty main characters among the kids and the movie doesn’t explain any of the absences...even Terry! You’d think Jesse, his brother, would at least mention Terry once. That always bugged me.
