"Oh good, an international break is coming up. Boy am I looking forward to that"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Can someone make this international break go away now?
International breaks are rubbish, nobody likes them ☹️

International football is far superior to club football, which has been shit for decades and is only getting worse, what with a handful of clubs being so dominant.
You can't have international football without international breaks.
Therefore international breaks are an essential part of football.

Superior to club football? Seriously, you can't watch much football to come out with that line. How many lower league games have you attended recently? some great games are being played and far more competitive too.

How many lower league games have you attended recently? some great games are being played and far more competitive too. I chose the wording to be a bit provocative, knowing that many posters here would disagree with me. What I really meant is that I personally have a much, much bigger interest in international football than in club football. Club football these days, with the ever-increasing concentration of wealth in very few leagues and in very few teams within these leagues, is of no interest to me. I would much rather watch Japan vs Senegal in the World Cup than Barcelona vs Manchester City in the Champions League - even though I am aware that objectively speaking the quality of play will very likely be higher in the latter. If we ever go back to the days when Steaua Bucharest or Red Star Belgrade or Hamburg SV or Ajax have a chance to win the Champions League, I might change my mind. As for lower league games, no, I have never attended one. I do admire the passion that British fans have for their local lower league teams though.

Most of the games I have attended over the last decade have had attendances under 500. You get a slightly bonkers sort of loyalty at the 7th and 8th tiers of the football pyramid in the UK. I spent from 1968 to around 2000 going to second division games every other week with crowds around 15000 and they were wonderful, but there is something as you say quintessentially British about having attending away games on the same coach as the team and getting pissed up with them after promotion.

International breaks are rubbish, nobody likes them ☹️ I have no words, neither in German nor in English, how I hate these friendlies; even before I broke with our national team. Expand the Bundesliga to 20 teams (as every other major league in Europe for Christ's sake) and fill these weeks with the additional match days.

Since when is trashing Sam Marino 0:8 superior football? And even the most games of WC and EC are pretty crappy. And since _ I_ boycott the EC and WC anyway...away with it. We can have international football: it's called Champions League and Europa League. Therefore: international breaks are not an essential part of football.

The HSV isn't even good enough to play in the Bundesliga (first tier) and was relegated to the 2. Bundesliga...how in hell shall they be worthy, capable or whatever to win the CL?!
