Thinking about actors who went to Europe to make their careers. We know about Clint Eastwood and Lee Van Cleef obviously.
But what about some others? Barbara Bouchet--who did some tv -Star Trek etc then went to Italy and never came back (I think she appeared in a Martin Scorcese film). Lex Barker is another. Did a lot of movies in German film.
The various peplum stars like Steve Reeves, Reg Park, Gordon Scott.
A few like Martin Balsam went back and forth.
Any thoughts on this subject? Anecdotes?

Charles Bronson is another. He tried to get a leading role career in the US (Showdown at BootHill) but it didn't work out. Once he did OUATITW it changed and he did a number of Euro films before he did Death Wish (and he never did achieve any big studio film jobs).
Carroll Baker is another interesting case. She did a number of US films but seems to have got her leading role opportunities in Europe.

A whole mass of directing, writing and producing talent fled the USA after being hounded by HUAC (or for fear of being so). Joseph Losey and Cy Endfield did their best work in England, while John Huston settled in Ireland.

At the end of their acting careers, actors like Lee J. Cobb, Richard Conte and Arthur Kennedy did a lot of movies in Italy, many that I can guess some of you have never heard of. Athur Kennedy in L'umanoide 1979 Richard Conte in Un urlo dalle tenebre 1975 Lee J. Cobb in Mark il poliziotto 1975

Roman Polanski"When he fled from the U.S. in the late 70s, much was made about the director's inability to ever make films in the States again. However, Polanski only shot 2 films in the States prior to his arrest: Rosemary's Baby (1968) and Chinatown (1974) were shot in North America. All other English-language films before the arrest were shot in the UK, and all the ones since have been shot in Central Europe." "Having made films in Poland, Britain, France and the USA, he is considered one of the few truly international filmmakers"

George Raft and Errol Flynn also skipped to Europe (the latter as his Warner Bros. contract ended).
I suppose a separate thread could be done for those who ended up in Mexico (Boris Karloff, Basil Rathbone....)

I suppose a separate thread could be done for those who ended up in Mexico (Boris Karloff, Basil Rathbone....) or the title could just be edited from "Europe" to "Abroad " and that would cover anyone who went from their original location to a new one to re-start a career. OH, the possibilities, eh ?

Another interesting case is Richard Harrison (Europe and Asia). I remember him in MASTER OF THE WORLD as Vincent Price's crew member. He did tons of things elsewhere--ended up making good money so I hear (and he has a long battle with his ex-wife in court over it).

Sophia Loren, Greta Garbo and Marlene Dietrich were among those who had successful careers in their native countries and then went on to perhaps even greater success in Hollywood.

Peter Cushing started in Hollywood--left, became a name in UK tv and movies, then did Star Wars (but didn't keep doing Hollywood movies). Christopher Lee started in the UK, became a marquee name in Continent Europe (and US thanks to Dracula), tried to get bigger parts in Hollywood--when that failed he went back to Europe but towards the end came back to Hollywood productions. Vincent Price went back and forth between England and the US--I believe he went to school there--then returned in the 1960s and also did some UK radio in the 70s. He did some Italian films too.
