I know it's not something that happens in the comics, but since Jane Foster is out of the MCU it seems like a plausible alternative.

I loved Tessa Thompson in Ragnarok, in fact her Valkyrie is one of my favorite female MCU characters. But though I enjoy her as Valkyrie, I'm having a hard time imagining her as Thor. I don't know why, I just feel like it's the wrong fit for female Thor. Maybe it's because I'd prefer a bigger actress for the role?

No, keep Thor as Thor, but thing is I can see them going in such a direction where he ends up passing the torch to another character and I wouldn't be shocked if it is either Valkyrie or Jane Foster(Natalie Portman actually has shown interest in coming back).
