McAvoy has more range. Gosling not so much. He doesn't stray too far from his usual style.

McAvoy. Gosling has come a long way though to his credit.

Gosling overall given the following info...
while McAvoy has more range, I like Gosling's overall presence more (especially in the right role) and Gosling has 2-3 movies (Only God Forgives(7/10)/Drive(7/10)/La La Land(6-6.5/10)) within My Favorite Movies-ish range (McAvoy has none) which always helps raise my opinion of someone straight up.

I loved McAvoy in Shameless and he was okay in Atonement, but otherwise haven't been all that impressed. Gosling has an easy presence which can sometimes disguise the fact that he has quite a lot of range. An easy choice.

McAvoy seems to be broader, more diverse in (acting) range. Godling I just have mostly seen emulate the pretty, cool bad boy with a golden heart, James Dean without the emo. Maybe there is more to him.

Gosling by quite a bit actually (his role as the driver in Drive is imo the coolest film character of this decade so far ) . Plus I really liked him in a lot of other things over the years that stand out more than McAvoy's best performances . Gosling has Half Nelson , Drive (as mentioned above) , The Place Beyond the Pines, Blue Valentine , Blade Runner 2049 and shows off his great comedic chops in The Nice Guys . Totally dwarfs whatever McAvoy has done over the years imo

I really like them both so very tough choice. I think McAvoy is slightly better though, he has more on screen presence. Gosling is the better actor when it comes to subtly for his roles like in Blade Runner and First Man, but overall McAvoy has more layers.
