But we all agree that in a closed space, the legend of Karl Tanner is the greatest fighter you have got on your disposal Heh, I always got the impression that scene was supposed to mirror the same episode's scenes with Arya and the Hound where the latter pointed out Meryn Trant defeated Syrio Forel 'because he had armor on and a big fucking sword.' That was also the case between Jon Snow and the 'Fooking Legend' as KT scored hits on John but his armor prevented them from penetrating much but one true hit from Longclaw and the Legend was history. Except that Jon actually lost the fight and was saved by one of Craster's girls. This is actually a theme with Jon. He loses the Battle at the Wall if Stannis does not come and save him. He loses at Winterfell if the Vale does not ride in and save him. He 'beat' Halfhand because he let him to infiltrate the Wildlings. He 'beat' Karl Tanner except that he really didn't. He lost and was about to be finished when Craster's girl stabs Karl in the back of the head. He did beat a white walker by surprising him with Longclaw, but he seems to make terrible decision after terrible decision and his plot armor saves him every time.

I don't really disagree with any of that, I've noted the same thing many a time, along with the fact he's truly a dumbass sometimes too. Funny thing is I've really grown to like him and when he pulled yet another dipshit move and refused to deceive Cersei at the Dragonpit I was glad everyone else called him out on it--and even more pleased by his defense of himself. He's right about that in my view. But in that situation I can't help but paraphrase St. Augustine: 'please give me honor and honesty--just not yet!'

The funny thing is that I love Jon. He is a great character and I actually hope he sits on the Iron Throne in the end, but he can be a huge dumbass.
