I'm not sure what you're getting at but you did cause me to wonder why no one ever considered employing wildfire against the wights. Someone could have asked Cersei for some at the Dragonpit, she might have given them some hoping they'd blow themselves up with it.

Jon Snow's secret weapon is his stupidity. The walkers have known all through that this man's stupidity can only help and that's why they leave him alive. The same is true for Tarly boy.

Jon Snow's secret weapon is his stupidity. The walkers have known all through that this man's stupidity can only help and that's why they leave him alive. The same is true for Tarly boy. This is one of the things that really lost me in the show. Book-Jon is never that dumb and I don't recall Sam being that complete fuck-up either. Sam was asking Jon to take Gilly away from Craster in S2 then he heard from dragonglass on Dragonstone and never said a thing. Then the whole bunch decide to go for an all out war against a seemingly invincible enemy instead of inventing guerilla warfare. It gets the brain-dead audience to see Cersei as the villain for refusing participation but seriously, she's the only one left with a chance of doing anything sensible at this point. I wonder how much of this "Great War" is meant to be a parallel to the consciously ridiculous waste of resources in WWI.

I searched the script for the "great war" over all seasons, to see where the term comes from. The results are interesting, it almost always comes from believers in the Lord Of Light, Melisandre, Kinvara, probably Beric but also once from Benjen. Then it gets picked up and thrown around. So it starts almost as a political slogan, something leaders want to push people to. So how did Benjen get infected? Is it all the 3-Eyed Raven's doing as book readers speculate? Are Blooraven and Bran uploading stuff to the flames?
