After what I saw last night, i don't know. I was hoping they would win the 1st place spot, but that didn't spark much confidence in me. I feel as if they need '1' more really good player in the paint.
They are good with Isaiah Thomas and Al Horford, but it seems like a component is missing. Maybe they could get someone in free agency next year? Ainge, c'mon, we need another BIG 3...

I can not even envision a scenario where they beat a Lebron led Cavs in a seven game series this year.

Not this year. Even if they had gotten the #1 seed, they aren't good enough to beat Cleveland. They're good enough to win a game or two, but I can't even see it going 7.

I think even if Kyrie Irving gets injured, Celtics still won't be able to beat Cavs. Yeah, but they look good for next season.

As others have said, I think they are a piece away.

Well, Blake Griffin's going to be a free agent.

They've had the same problem for a few years now: They have no alpha dog, and thus no identity. Thomas has become the guy in the 4th qtr, but you can't take over a playoff series at his size when you only play on one end of the floor. IT can't defend anyone, and while he's their leading scorer, I don't know that the team views him as a 'leader' overall. They're a hard working group but ultimately someone has to be able to rally the tropps in ugly games like last night. The playoffs are a grind and the Celtics have one serious threat to score in late game possessions. That's just not enough.

Don't the Celtics have the Nets' lottery pick this year? IIRC they got it in the 2013 trade when they sent Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to the Nets, back when that new Russian owner thought he could just buy a good team by overpaying for big names.
They've got a top pick, possibly even the #1 pick, they've got lots of cap space, and I believe they have more money coming off the books at the end of this season, which means they're in prime position for the talent-rich free agent market this summer.
Celts should look at this postseason as an opportunity to get valuable playoff experience for the young guys. Get a couple series under their belts. If they can't beat the Cavs it's not the end of the world, the window is closing on Lebron and all that mileage is gonna catch up with him.
