What’s wrong with the production value?

I really want to like this movie, but Sophie just doesn't do it for me. I don't know if it's her acting ability perse. Part of it is her accent. It doesn't feel like a character is talking it feels like an actor is saying lines. As this whole movie is kind of dependent on her performance, I just can't get excited for it.

It's the fact that, in a bizarre twist of cinematic fate, the more Sophie Turner acts empowered and sadistic, the more she actually comes off as a bullied victim. She simply has no agency.

Based on some plot details I’ve heard I think that fits the character she is playing. Even in the original Dark Phoenix you can’t really say Jean has agency. She’s a woman being driven mad by a cosmic entity.

She’s a woman being driven mad by a cosmic entity. There is a critical moment in the source material where Jean does take control of her actions and her fate. We'll see what Turner ends up doing with the rest of the movie.

Not gonna watch any TV spots but I heard she is meant to be displaying arrogance which is positive to hear. Didnt really get that in X3 where Jean was just a zombie 90% of the time

I find the movie more and more problematic. Sophie is hot but she's not Jean Grey. I wish they would hire American actors to play American roles, it's becoming an issue.

Captain Marvel acts arrogant and, of course, it's a problem. Sophie Turner does the same and, it's “positive” --- sight unseen. Turner's version of "arrogance" looks like a would-be school shooter who was bullied and has now returned to mow down everyone aside from the actual perpetrators.

She didn't but, she gets accused of it quite a bit.
