You are the first in with this news which only came out, it looks, less than an hour ago. Rickles has been a favorite from way back. The very first time I saw him or heard of him was in a dramatic role on the mid-1960s TV series "Run For Your Life." I was very impressed and believed him to be a new upcoming serious actor. (He was Method trained at the American Academy of Dramatic Art.) It wasn't until a few years later when he started appearing on network TV in his insult comic role that I learned his true vocation. I have been a fan every since. My best to his family and friends. (I know they don't know me, but just throwing this out along with all the other condolences that will be pouring in worldwide.)

...great Rickles Anecdote follows:
In a posh Hollywood restaurant, Don Rickles was with a date. He noticed that Frank Sinatra was sitting alone at a table on the other side of the room. Since Don was acquainted with Frank, he excused himself from his date to go to the restroom. He sidled up to Frank and asked for a favor...would Frank please walk up to his table with his date and acknowledge him, thereby making it seem like he was pals with Frank. Frank agreed, and when Frank came over to the table and said "hey, how are you doing Don?" To which Rickles relied "geez, Frank, can't you see I'm eating?"
