Not this year, but a vinyl copy of 'No More Shall We Part' by N C & Bad Seeds. It's a double and it cost me twice as much as the CD when it first came out.

I don't mean to get anyone bent out of shape, but what the fuck is the fascination with vinyl? I grew up with vinyl. They scratched, they skipped, they warped, they sucked. You had to treat them like an ancient artifact from a long forgotten tomb. "Don't leave them outside of the sleeve, they'll scratch. Only touch them on the side, the fingerprints will make them skip. Put them make in the right sleeve or I'll never know which one is which. Put them back in alphabetical order or I can't find the one I want.". But they got scratchy anyway. I still hear some tunes and expect a skip because my record skipped at that point. Other than album covers, they have no advantages.

Well, for older music that was recorded on analogue tapes, vinyl sounds superior to digital. CDs and mp3s are compressed compared to the original. IMHO, it’s not that bad, but the quality is lower. Also I think that the packaging IS a major pro for vinyl. Take Zeppelin III. The cover is interactive and it comes with posters and all sorts of fun shit. Beats the hell out of cds, let alone mp3s.

Yeah, album covers rocked. I remember the cool stuff you got. My brother had a KISS poster on his wall for years that he got out of one of their albums. But they still were fragile as hothouse violets. I thought that "A Day in the Life" went "I saw a film crowd of people turned away". I thought Pink Floyd's "Time" went "So you run and come up behind you again.". I just thought it was some nostalgia thing. Next they'll bring back the 8 Track.

Well a lot of that comes down to taking care of your records. I grew up in the age of cds and tapes and all of my old collection are scratched and ruined beyond repair cause it didn’t know what I was doing or how to take care of them. I did some vinyl collecting and I make sure I take care of the records. Ultimately though, I agree that the convenience of digital recordings supersedes fuzzy warm nostalgia feelings I get from vinyl records.

Started as a good idea, now just a rip off like everything else. Overpriced and then sold up at huge mark ups. It's business throughout the year that the small record store needs not this which should be called "record company day" to be more accurate.
