It's a shame that a 700+ year old beautiful building will probably be lost, its a part of the history of the Western World.

The bell hasn't fallen yet but when that happens, the whole bell tower will collapse , I hope no one has been killed in fighting this fire. I wonder if one of the workers just threw his cigarette butt into flammable material.

I was last there on New Year's Eve, '18, just a few months ago. I didn't go into the Cathedral on that trip, but I had a river-cruise lunch, with friends. I'd never seen Notre Dame from the river. The slow progression of the boat provided a new, inspiring view.
I hope that the depth of feeling that this loss has engendered, world wide, can be re-focused in an enthusiasm to rebuild.
