No question they're better athletes, but without looking at any stats I'd say they aren't necessarily better shooters. The game has evolved into a wide open frenzy of threes these days. Centers are encouraged to shoot threes which was virtually unheard of in the 80s-90s. (With the exception of the brief time when they moved the 3 point line in in the 90s to give scoring a boost, which had the opposite effect. Defenses could rotate out to shooters more quickly and scoring actually went down.)
It's just a different game now. Scoring is up and there are a ton of threes being taken and made because that's how the game is played. Pretty sure you'd have the same result, if not increased 3 pt. % back in the day (if the three point line existed back then) if everyone was encouraged to take threes. Fundamentals were stronger back then but the defense wouldn't have been as athletic as today so if you moved the ball for open shots it would've been raining threes back in the 60s as well.
