I've been noticing quite a few of these in movies.
Did or do buildings really have an ax for fires for public access located on a wall somewhere? Seems like it's too much of a dangerous thing to have where any maniac can grab it and use it as a weapon.
I don't ever recall seeing one. Is it just a movie thing or did they really exist?

Well any maniac can grab a sharp knife from a kitchen in a building and use it as a weapon. Anyways, I think I've seen a fire ax or two at a building here and there. Might have been in a government type of building.

I've seen them before although I haven't noticed any in recent years. But I wasn't looking for any either.

I worked in a grocery store in my twenties and we had two of them. Haven't seen one since.
