I donโt think anybody will ever be more popular than Batman, Superman, and Spider-Man. They can recast and reboot them to death. Whereas with characters like Wolverine and Tony Stark, I think people are going to have a really hard time with any other actor taking on those roles. Jackman and RDJ basically own them. Don't know about you, but I'm looking forward to another actor portraying Wolverine.

I just feel there are some characters that certain actors just own. I think the general public is going to have a harder time with it. But of course I could be totally wrong. Itโs definirely going to be interesting to see someone else play Wolverine.

Why canโt they be treated as normal people? Females arent into comics and comic movies as much as men Because the characters are mostly male. WW and CM gave them a character they feel represents them and look what happened.

Why canโt they be treated as normal people? Females arent into comics and comic movies as much as men But they make up more than half the world population. Making movies for both men and women is... logical.

The demographics are changing. Traditionally superheroes and nerd culture was mostly male. Being part of that culture growing up and into college, working in it during/post college, and still part of it as adult there is a shift. In the mid 90's to early 00's working in a nerd shop on and off females probably made up 20% of the customers. And the ones that were there were either demeaned or put on a pedestal. They weren't treated as people but as females first thus they either didn't know what they were talking about/posers or earned the respect and thus was a mythical creature.
The store I worked for is still open today and still owned by my college buddy (dude dropped out his senior year because he couldn't run the store and go to class the same time) We have lunch 1 the month just to keep in touch at the same chinese place we used to go to back in college. And you would be amazed at how mainstream everything that was niched is. Half of his customers are female. Looking at the winners of Magic or Pokemon tournaments are almost 50/50. 2 of the DM's that do D&D and Pathfinder in the store are Female, 1 is male. (used to be 2 to 1 the other way but one of DM's moved and a woman took his place) The kids that come in were raised on Nerd Culture both boys and girls. (I say kids as anybody under the age of 20). I go into retro video game stores on a monthly basis and you see a pretty balanced set of genders. I went to 2nd and Charles (used book store chain owned by either Books a Million of Barnes and Noble can't remember) to grab some Hardcover Graphic Novels and I saw girls and guys looking through the long boxes)
Pop Culture has fully embraced Nerd Culture and because of it demographics are shifting.

While I agree that more and more girls/women are getting into nerd culture, I think that the more hardcore fans are still primarily male. So while it's very common to see a 50/50 split in comic cons, gaming shops and comic stores... the ones who collect the most stuff, learn the most stuff, spend the most stuff and get involved with the most stuff are usually still the guys. I mean, just look at this board. We have like what, 1 resident female (merh)? 2 if you count Debloveslucy? From my observation, while it's very easy to see a 50/50 split in gender among the fans, majority of the women are mostly casual fans. The hardcore fans are still almost purely male.

I would concede that hardcore fans are still Male by majority. I would posit that for the Hardcore fans to become more female they first have to be more female casuals. And it probably won't be the casuals that become hardcore, but the generation raised by casuals. If a child is raised by a casual fan it's more likely for that child to be a casual or hardcore fan. I think we are in the median step right now.

They had some casual knowledge but that was about it. Whereas me and my friends (who are all roughly the same age) are all pretty knoweldgeable about geek culture one way or another. It will be interesting what culture the kids of today will have when they grow up. *Edit: Now that I think about it, the few times my dad ever talked about superheroes the ones he seemed to like the most were Thor, Hulk and Daredevil. Huh, I just realized my dad was a Marvel fan.

Huh, I just realized my dad was a Marvel fan. My dad was very not into superheroes, sci-fi, horror. He had a very high threshold to suspension of disbelief. The only superhero movie he ever liked was Batman Begins because it was so set in real life. My mom was pretty neutral. Me and my siblings were mostly casuals (except for me I was pretty hardcore) now my Nieces and Nephew were raised with our tastes. They are all about nerd culture, but the Youngest Niece she's hardcore. Hell, she's going to a STEM Charter High School because of her love of Robotics/Engineering because of Ironman. (Speaking on that Niece she has tickets with her Mom for Thursday Midnight Showing and is missing her only day of school so far this year Friday because of it)

Whereas with characters like Wolverine and Tony Stark, I think people are going to have a really hard time with any other actor taking on those roles. Jackman and RDJ basically own them. That's not so much due to popularity as it is variety, Spidey in a decade was portrayed by 3 separate actors in live action over 3 separate franchises, Batman/Bruce has been portrayed in live action by 8 different actors since his creation, it will be 10 when Titans S2 airs as I think Gotham has someone else play Batman in the finale, and Superman has been played by 10 separate actors also since his creation, it's not that no one else can play these roles, just that no one else has played these roles yet, when you only have one version of a character or portrayal it's easy to think of it as the only one there could be, I mean Joker is a character who has repeatedly had the no one but this actor can play this character, yet they have had 4 popular version of the character in live action...and Leto's.
