Pies captain Scott Pendlebury was the hero as Collingwood weathered a determined comeback from Essendon, the skipper playing a sublime last quarter to cut off attack after attack by Essendon. The siren went with Collingwood, who had led by 33 early, clinging to a 4 point lead.
This was the 25th Anzac Day Collingwoid vs Essendon match. Collingwood are 15-9 in the match up. Only closer results were 2013, where Collingwood won by 1 point, and the very first in 1995 which was drawn. It was Scott Pendlebury's 3rd Anzac Medal making him the equal all time leader with Essendon's James Hird.
On a subjective note 2014 remains ky favourite. Collingwood trailed by 37 early, tied it up by half time and then Dane Swan took over the gane in the third quarter to set up one of the best wins in the history of the club.
Swan would go on to make one of the most infamous troll posts in history. With fellow footballer Christian Petraca showing up at the Brownlow Medal wearing a tight pink suit over an hawaian shirt with a beautiful blonde on his arm. Swan asked the question "What would Christian Petraca have been if he hadn't been a footballer?" His answer: A virgin.
Also was the day I met my current wife.

Over here, that Swan crack is attributed to footballer Peter Crouch who said it about himself.
