I'm going to try to catch up on my unwatched Motorsport this weekend. Got the 3 Moto classes from Doha to get through then I'll watch the F2 and F1.

Well that was a good race. Great drive from Lewis. Hopefully the rest of the year will be as good. Perez did well. It's looking like he'll get the hang of the Red Bull at some point this year. Vettel didn't have a great debut in the Aston and Otmar seems pretty bitter about the rule changes to the floor aimed at slowing the Mercedes. So it turns out they copied the wrong car in the long run ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Merc seem confident they can get the performance loss back elsewhere on the car so that leaves Aston in the shit it seems Whats the deal with Marzipan spinalot? I haven't read anything about him in the off season and know nothing of his earlier career but he seems like he's WAY out of his depth. I've only seen qualifying and the race (no testing or practice sessions) and he's spun every time i saw him on track! Alsono looking pretty good out there until he wasn't careful unwrapping his sandwiches. It's quite annoying that we have to wait so long for the 2nd race of the season. Possibly this is going to be the best season of 10 years or more. Can't wait for the next race. I had MotoGP to watch last week so it's only this weekend that's devoid of racing. I am looking forward to the next race though and MotoGP should be epic next week too.

We have a potentially great race starting in a few minutes. Let's see.

Come on Max! Almost fucked it up at the restart. Hamilton is a lucky man. He would not have had a chance for a podium without that red flag. He can thank his fellow mercedes boys. Good race for Norris. McLaren was looking good this whole weekend. Man, the Haas boys are slow, especially Mazepin. Perez, I know he is not that good in the rain, but damm, RBR could have gotten some nice points for the CWC. Also, the team should have known that he should have given those places back during the SC.

I thought more drivers may not be able to finish. Could end up being the season to remember for ages. But yes, both the second driver of Mercedes and Red Bull have got to step up.

You could see that Hamilton and Verstappen were in a league of their own today.
Edit: I forgot to mention how awesome Max his start was. Honda has fixed the issue it had in earlier years with wet starts.

Another extraordinary race. The rain adding drama to a fairly conservative track, but I still don't think we are seeing the teams' true colors.
The only thing that was clearly demonstrated was that Max and Lewis are in a league of their own, as their number twos embarrassed themselves with no points, but let's not write them off quite yet. Perez needs to make fewer mistakes and Bottas doesn't need to be taken out by somebody else's mistake, even if he was fighting for a point or two.
Great to see McLaren come away as the team that scored the most points, kind of.
Ferrari must be pretty happy with their 4th and 5th at their home GP, compared to previous years, and I'm really looking forward to that rivalry playing out over the season between them and McLaren.
With that said, can Alpha Tauri throw their spanner in the works. Tsunoda looks like he might have some real talent, if not for his mistakes.
The Bottas v Russell crash was an interesting bit of political drama. A scary situation for sure, but I call for the blame to be laid at Russell's feet. There was enough room, but he panicked, hit the white line and took out Bottas. When he got out of the car and started walking to Bottas' car I thought he was checking up on him, which would have been a nice Mercedes PR move, but instead attacked a driver, whilst they were still in their car, having suffered a high speed crash. Not a good look from the newly appointed Director of the Grand Prix Drivers.

I really enjoyed that race. I watched MotoGP and Indycar too and it's not very often i can say i enjoyed F1 the most out of the three.
I agree that Max and Lewis are in a league of their own with the rest of the field in their own league with the exception of the two Haas drivers who aren't even in a league. Mazespin embarrassed himself even more at Imola.
The Bottas / Russell crash was an interesting one. I blame Bottas. A lot of drivers were pulling the same move Russell tried all through the race but i think Bottas was either not paying attention until the last second when he darted slightly to the left or he knew it was Russell and thought a Williams would't challenge him so didn't keep an eye on him until the last second.

The crash is a difficult one to apportion blame at the moment, as there is one crucial bit of evidence that hasn't been seen yet, and that's Bottas' onboard camera. We need to see his steering wheel. The fact that piece of footage hasn't been released yet, could be seen as a vindication of Russell, maybe. With that said, Russell tried to execute an incredibly ambitious move, of overtaking from a corner by going on the outside on the wet part of the track on slicks, with DRS open. That's up to Russell to make stick, and he couldn't.

Oh it was definitely an ambitious move and if he had had the room to pull it off we would be calling him a genius now ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) It could maybe be put down as a racing incident i suppose and i guess i should have said i apportion more blame to Bottas than Russell.

If you want to see rival drivers/ riders in dust ups, then Scotland's John MacPhee in Moto3 has everyone covered this year. Last week Went up to a rider (who was in no way at fault for his crash) and kicked him in the guts!
It was an entertaining race. I'm not convinced that Mercedes aren't still significantly superior to the field. I'm pretty sure Lewis catches Max and checks out if not for the big mistake. Mind you, I think Max was a little unlucky not to win the previous race, so swings and roundabouts.
The IndyCar return was fun with an unexpected winner, an aussie in 2nd, a kiwi in 3rd, Grosjean in the top 10 and the reigning Australian Supercars Champion Scott McLaughlin had a perfectly respectable first full time race, finishing 14th.

It was an ok race. It was nice to see the battle between the Lewis, Max and Valtteri. What was lacking was a midfield battle, it was very tame there. The direction of the race was also very terrible. Perez really is an improvement over Gasly and Albon. Mazepin is so out of his league in F1. No one has won a race from pole this season. Ham Bot Ver is now the most common podium combo.

Yeah even I had the same feelings about this race. It was good when top 3 made their overtakes but there was nothing going on in the midfield and even among top 3 after first half of the race. I would even go on to say this was a boring race. Although it might be important in that Merc seems to have made quite a decent amount of adjustments and are now probably a better team than RBR

Yep that was a mediocre race. Indycar on the other hand was excellent.
I completely agree about Mazespin. It's been quite a while since we've seen someone so out of his depth make it to F1.

That wasn't such a bad race. It was watchable.
We are beginnning to see the teams' potential, but the wind messed with the aeros, and some of the cars aeros are really being affected by dirty air, so there is still a lot of ironing out to be done. We're still watching the tech race catching up to the track race, so to speak.
Hamilton showed his experience with his patience, not getting frustrated, whilst waiting for the optimal time to pounce. Bottas managed the bare minimum for 20-ish laps, and then faltered. He desperately needed the win, but will now have to contend in his all too familiar role as a number two.
Congrats to Norris for another solid drive. Also, Alpine did really well, also. Looks like it's going to be Alpine and not Alpha Tauri with spanner in hand. Tsunoda needs to improve his concentration.
It was passable.

I'll agree with sjg in that the F1 was mediocre, but the Indycar was excellent. The reigning Australian Super Cars champion picked up a 2nd and an 8th. O'Ward got his first win and we now have 4 winners from 4 races. Shame Will Power finished well back.

And in the motos couldn't be happier. We're watching the next great rider coming up through Moto3. We've got an Aussie son of a legend leading Moto2 and an Aussie winner in the MotoGP! What a weekend!!
