Instead of the convoluted plan they came up with, was there any reason why they couldn't just send fat Thor back to the third act of Infinity War so he could go for the head?
This was probably explained in the movie but I was too stupid to listen.

I guess.....

I haven't seen the film yet so but do could they have done it to somehow reverse the damage he did during IW and just prior to it, which you know was a lot he decimated 2 species and wiped out Knowhere completely, killing him in the end scene of IW wouldn't prevent all that, or does all that stuff stay in tact? if so that's pointless, should have had Thor go back to Wakanda and as younger him buries the axe in Thanos's heart older Thor does the same to his head, cutting him off right at "should have gone for the *thud* uhhhhhh *dies*"

go for it, warnings in the title anyway. Thor cuts Thanos' head off very easily at the start of the film before the Avengers form their main plan. Their plan involves basically using time travel to sneak into every other movie that featured an Infinity stone and steal them so Stark can make his own gauntlet and reverse most of what Thanos did. For me, I thought it would be a lot easier for someone like Thor (who is a fat alcoholic now, lol) to go back get them when they were all in one place, I.E Just before the snap. Vegas made a good point about Stark's daughter, though.

There is a new Asgard in Norway, though.
