This is great fun, especially for those of us who are not British and might enjoy British wit. Whenever, I don't have anything else to watch, I just pop one of these in the old tele, sit back and enjoy. Has anyone else here seen these, which include many episodes based on PG Wodehouse stories? This is the type of madcap comedy that I really enjoy. John Alderton and Pauline Collins are a real-life married couple who have been married since 1969. This may be the best married couple comedy team since Bruns and Allen.
By the way, Pauline Collins received an Oscar nomination for the movie, Shirley Valentine (1989) which makes me want to see THAT movie..

Oh wow a trip down Memory Lane! I watched this series, most of it, on Wednesday nights on PBS in 1975. I love Pauline & John from Upstairs, Downstairs.

Very vague memories, with the real PG introducing the stories. at least the earlier episodes.

A theater production with Jeeves and Wootie playing nearby -- hope to catch it.

Now that you mention it, I have the boxed set of Jeeves and Wooster (1990–1993) also. I like these too, but still prefer the Wodehouse Playhouse Complete set for it clever non sequitors.
The early 70s was a great period for American TV, but it was also a great period for British TV too. I remember watching Faulty Towers, faithfully, all the time in the 70s.
Also, it was in the late 70s and early 80s that the complete BBC Shakespeare series ran. I appreciate that for its completeness and faithfulness to the texts. In fact, I made a point of seeing all those plays with the Penguin texts in front of me while watching them. At the time I was watching them, they were only out on VHS and the library would not let me check them out. So, I just sat in the library with earphones on to complete the series.

And back then, I also was a fan of the Lord Peter Wimsey mysteries with Ian Carmichael (and still return to them on occasion).
