The Mike Trout saga could be one of the most interesting in baseball history. Is one of the greatest players in history doomed to struggle on a team that mediocre at best for his entire career? A team that will be the ugly stepchild in its hometown? The Angels have no real motivation to trade him now. The fans will crucify ownership if the sign Trout to a long contract then dump him (a deal that will eventually favor the team, in five years, $35,000,000 will seem like a song). The Angels can build a winner, but when? Owner Arte Moreno had seemed to tighten his checkbook, the team can't seem to develop prospects (having Trout assures that the Angels probably won't have top five draft picks), and they will always be the modern day St. Louis Browns/Chicago Cardinals/New York Americans, the second team in their hometown.
