Someone here has a point: I long felt this was the actual basis of the whole story but that was before I realised GRRM is just a juvenile fantasy hack who gets off on planting BIG PLOT TWISTS. Now, I'm no longer sure and feel this person might end up disappointed, although I do see a rift forming between Sansa and Daenerys.

While there is some truth to what she is saying, she is using poetic exaggeration when she says "they will all die by each other's hand". The threat that could have killed them all is gone. Yes, wars do create inefficiencies and could hamper the long term economic development and prosperity. But the commoners usually don't all die because of wars. Our own planet saw countless wars. One of the flaws of GRRM's work is that he has paid very little time for people who are outside the nobility. Given that the name of the final book of GRRM is "A Dream of Spring" I do not see a very dark ending to the books/show. In fact I don't see it anyway given his writing style. It's just a standard fanfare fiction. To read otherwise or try to believe that there is a deeper intent that the authors have in mind is a bit too naive belief.
