I say no. I’m fine with the way the movie ended, but I know that others would disagree.

Wouldn’t have made a difference, honestly.

Yes. Better to have gone out in a blaze of glory than fooling everyone into believing he was gone.

He should have died before The Dark Knight Rises, then they never would have made that mess of a movie.

I’m mixed. I like that Bats gets a happy ending, but on the other hand in the context of the movie it would have made more sense to kill him off and completely pass the torch over to Robin, leaving his memory lingering on.
It feels like that was the ending that was originally intended, too.
While Anne Hathaway is fine in the part, I also don’t think she’s the right match for Batman, maybe because we just met her. I can see Batman, Keaton or Bale, with Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman; Hathaway’s just seems too nice, somehow.

A key part of his journey in the Nolan films is him wanting to eventually settle down and live a normal life. If they killed him off, he wouldn’t have been able to complete that journey. That’s just the the way I see it, though.

Except the Dark Knight Rises showed us that he'd already quit being Batman. Yes, but at the beginning of the film, Bruce wasn’t able to move on and live a normal life. He became a recluse who immediately jumped at the opportunity to become Batman again. Alfred even pointed out to him that he refused to move on from Rachel’s death. By the end of the movie, Bruce was finally ready to put Batman behind him and settle down with Selina.
