20 pages into this. tough going. the context is beyond someone like me. but i like its mysterious air. i have to keep running to the dictionary. too many words in foreign languages. references to many obscure historical characters and events. but i think i'll keep at it.

I tried to read it when it first came out but gave up on it. I hope you do better than me. I've just finished watching the TV series and it did a good job overall. I don't think this is a spoiler, but just in case - I really felt let down at the end when all the murders ended up happening over a lost work by Aristotle. Perhaps I'm a philistine and don't understand the importance.

I gave up on it early doors too.
There may be a version with footnotes that translates the Latin passages.

I once tried to read Foucault's Pendulum by Eco but found it too difficult to stay with.

I love the film but from everything I have heard it was a tough book to keep up with. Sounds like the rumors were true. I'd often thought of trying to tackle it. Maybe one day.

I once tried to read Foucault's Pendulum by Eco but found it too difficult to stay with. The first 40 pages are a chore, but it's superb thereafter.

I was thinking of attacking it soon, now that there is a TV adaptation of it. I was going to try to read it in Italian, but it sounds like it might be a little bit too much!

It's a good film, I don't know how close it is to the book, but Sean Connery is excellent as well as Michael Lonsdale. Yeah, there was the controversial sex scene with Christian Slater. I think he was only 15 at the time.
