He is a bit of a "Snidely Whiplash on a boat"...

He's a terrible naval commander. They had decimated Dany's fleet and killed 50% of her air forces without taking a single hit, and their total spoils of that victory was... one interpreter.

Thats a pretty good batting average for his ghost ships unless the sole parameter is number of hostages taken.

There's a point But I think the question is about the quality of the character, not about how effective a pirate commander he is.

Behind Stannis and Ellaria, he is the worst adapted character in the series. He is supposed to be a frightening mix of Jack Sparrow and Voldemort while being better than both, and they turned him into an irritating frat boy. It's shameful.

I remember book-Euron as utterly ridiculous so deviating from that cannot be bad.

Don’t you realize what you’re saying? A mix of Jack Sparrow and Voldemort is an absurd caricature of a villain, and that’s exactly what book-Euron is.

They would be ashamed of liking the trash. I had to force myself through the gore, shit and stupid fantasy crap of last two, with its dragon horn, its Ironborn thugs and its ridiculous Meereenese fauna.

Theoretically, it should be absurd, but it works. I think it's the heavy Lovecraftian themes that make it great. He is a better villain than the likes of Ramsay or the Mountain.
